You fit one armour and one set of sails; both go with you to whatever ship you sail. What you buy stays yours and you can switch any time. The gold pieces are for every captain; Dragon Scale, Kraken Shell, the Storm and Phantom sails are elite pieces bought with crystals.

Royal Armour is the strongest gold armour; Dragonscale gives the same block earlier (Lv 14).
Kraken Shell gives both the most hull and the highest block.
