The maps Where maps come from The hunt
Maps drop from ships you sink and from the Kraken. Open one, sail to the X, sink its guards, then lie still beside it to dig.

The X is on a beach of an island in the listed band of waters (inner, middle or outer) of the sea you open the map in. The level multiplier is by the captain's level (+30% a level), and each chest varies by ±15%. Where maps come from#
Every ship you sink may leave a map: 3% in the inner waters, 4% in the middle, 5% in the outer. The outer waters give rare and legendary maps too (legendary 15%, rare 55%); in the middle a quarter are rare.
At a sea monster the top damage dealer gets a legendary map, anyone with 15% of the damage a rare one. Sea monsters
Rare and legendary maps can also be bought with crystals.
You can carry 10 of each map; more turn into crystals (Old Map 2, Captain's Map 5, Legendary Map 15).
The hunt#
Open the map: the X goes on your chart and 30 minutes start. One hunt at a time; if time runs out the treasure is lost.
Come within 650 px of the X and its guards sail out (once). Sink them first.
Lie almost still within 170 px of the X: when the digging is done, the chest is yours.
