Sea monsters

The Kraken, the Ice Dragon and the Magma Kraken: when they rise, how they attack and how the spoils are shared.

Every sea has its own monster. It rises from the deep at set intervals (every 30 minutes by default), announced to the whole sea before it wakes. Once up it can be fought for 15 minutes; if not beaten by then it dives back and pays nothing. With no captain at sea it doesn't rise.

Kraken

Kraken Emerald Isles

Crushes ships with its tentacles. 500,000 hull.

Ice Dragon

Ice Dragon Northern Ice Sea

Its frost breath slows a ship it hits by 45% for 3 seconds. 1,000,000 hull.

Magma Kraken

Magma Kraken Fire Isles

Splashes lava: a ship it hits burns for 4 seconds, losing 1.2% of its hull a second. 1,500,000 hull.

How the fight goes#

  • The monster doesn't move or fire cannons; it rises in the middle waters, away from the harbor.
  • It slams ships within 560 px: a ring appears on the water and 1.4 seconds later the blow lands, taking 11% of the hull of every ship inside. It strikes about every 2.4 seconds and aims a little ahead of moving ships.
  • Left alone for 30 seconds it starts to heal (1% of its hull a second).
  • Its hull is fixed, however many captains join in. Alone it is a long fight; attack together with the captains at sea.

How the spoils are shared#

When the monster is beaten, the spoils go to everyone by their share of the damage. Less than 1% of the total earns nothing. Everyone gets a base prize; a bigger share brings more XP, gold and crystals. The top damage dealer also gets cursed shot.

MonsterHullXP (base)Gold (base)CrystalsShotFame
Kraken500,0001,2004,0001–630 explosive (+30 cursed)×1
Ice Dragon1,000,0002,0007,0002–950 explosive (+50 cursed)×1.5
Magma Kraken1,500,0003,00010,0004–1580 explosive (+80 cursed)×2
  • Gold grows with the captain's level and with the share (a solo win pays about 1.8× the base).
  • XP grows with the share too, and slows with the captain's level like all hunting.
  • Crystals: the lower figure for everyone, the rest by share.
  • Rare drops: the top damage dealer has a 5% chance at the monster's sails and 15% at its banner; anyone with a fifth of the damage has 3% at the banner. The top dealer gets a legendary treasure map, anyone with 15% of the damage a rare one. Looks · Treasure maps
  • Monsters also give Blood Cove chart pieces (at most two a day): Blood Cove expedition
